Oryx Energies launches LPG offering in Senegal
6 September 2023
Oryx Energies S.A. has acquired a majority stake in Puma Energy Senegal S.A.
Puma Energy Senegal will be renamed Oryx Gaz Sénégal S.A. and will continue its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) business. In addition, Oryx Sénégal S.A. will integrate Puma Energy Senegal's five fuel retail sites and bunkering business into its operations.
The transaction strengthens Oryx Energies’ presence in Senegal and reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the energy transition towards cleaner fuels in the country.
Oryx Energies already occupies a leading position in LPG across sub-Saharan Africa and has been promoting LPG for over 20 years. Safe, efficient, competitively priced and more sustainable than traditional fuel, LPG has a pivotal role to play in the transition towards cleaner energy and offers proven benefits to both industrial and domestic users.
Of particular significance in the context of Senegal are Oryx Energies’ plans to provide currently under-served rural areas with a reliable source of LPG. To facilitate local uptake, the familiar blue colour of LPG bottles – recognised throughout the country – will be retained, while the bottles will be rebranded with the logo Oryx Energies.
As well as supplying LPG, Oryx Energies provides expert advice in the choice of LPG solutions as well as in their installation and maintenance. It operates in full conformity with ISO 9001:2015 (Quality), ISO 14001:2015 (Environment) and ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational health and Safety).
Moussa Diao, CEO Oryx Energies, said: “This acquisition enhances our presence in Senegal, one of our key markets since 1989. It is part of our global LPG business development plans in sub-Saharan Africa. We are strengthening our position in this sector as an experienced and leading player in core markets such as Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Burkina Faso, Tanzania and South Africa within the framework of ‘Oryzon 25’, our new three-year strategic plan.”
Present in Senegal since 1989, Oryx Energies operates an integrated supply, storage and distribution model. With a storage terminal strategically located in the port of Dakar, another under construction at the new port of Sendou-Bargny, and bunkering facilities, Oryx Energies maintains a reliable supply of quality oil products and services in Senegal for both industrial and domestic applications.
Oryx Energies is also active in the retail sector in Senegal and has established a two-tier network of branded service stations. Its roadside outlets supply the needs of Senegalese motorists, while its seaside outlets serve the Senegalese fishing business.
