Oryx Energies makes Uganda acquisition

28 November 2012

Oryx Energies has acquired Engen Uganda Ltd, as part of the planned expansion of its integrated downstream energy platform across sub-Saharan Africa. The share purchase was completed on November 23, 2012, and Engen Uganda has been renamed Oryx Oil Uganda Ltd. The acquisition includes 10 service stations that are being rebranded under the Oryx Energies name.

Oryx Energies in Uganda aims to respond to the energy needs of domestic and industrial customers in the country. To this end, it intends to invest significantly in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) infrastructure in Uganda, where there is a need for environmentally friendly and affordable energy alternatives, especially in rural areas. This reflects our strategy of promoting LPG as a modern replacement for firewood, charcoal and kerosene in sub-Saharan Africa.

In Uganda, Oryx Energies will benefit from the extensive storage and distribution capacities managed its subsidiaries in the region, to ensure a reliable supply of fuel as well as other products and services. These include strong logistical capacities in neighbouring Kenya, as well as a major storage terminal and a wholly-owned lubricants blending plant in Tanzania. Oryx Energies has considerable experience in LPG sourcing and distribution, and a growing presence in the bitumen market, all of which will help service the needs of customers in Uganda.
