Oryx Energies sponsors 2016 Africa LPG Summit
14 July 2016
Oryx Energies is the main sponsor of the 3rd annual Africa LPG Summit that will be held from 18 - 20 July, 2016, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on the theme "Removing Barriers to LPG Growth and Distribution in Africa".
Oryx Energies is a leader in the LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) industry in sub-Saharan Africa. LPG is readily available, easily stored and transported, and produces fewer greenhouse gases than any other fossil fuel. It is also better for health and safety than firewood, charcoal or paraffin (kerosene) and helps slow deforestation.
“LPG is a cleaner, healthier, safer, affordable and more ecological energy alternative to firewood, charcoal and kerosene, which are still widely used in sub-Saharan Africa”, explained Blaise Edja, Oryx Energies’ General Manager Global LPG. “Population growth, together with continued economic and social development, has increased energy demand in Africa and the need to protect the environment. We are convinced that LPG is an ideal solution and we expect this type of summit to support the policies necessary to provide better access to LPG for populations and companies across the region.”
Oryx Energies has been promoting LPG in sub-Saharan Africa for over 15 years. Its experience and reputation for quality and reliability have earned it a place on the Industry Council of the World LPG Association (WLPGA), making it a trusted partner for consumers and Governments. We work to support the development of the policy frameworks that ensure consumers have safe and sustainable access to this energy alternative.
“LPG has clear advantages as part of national strategies aimed at achieving ambitious health and environmental objectives, as well as extending access to energy in all countries,” Blaise Edja added. “As a result, many governments are working to ensure policies and regulations that help make LPG widely and reliably available at an affordable price,” he concluded.
In Tanzania, which is hosting this year’s summit, Oryx Energies has been present since 1999 and is the market leader in LPG, with over 1 million LPG cylinders in the market. We have invested heavily in bulk LPG storage facilities in Dar es Salaam, as well as a series of upcountry depots and filling plants, to ensure a reliable supply to businesses and consumers across the country. Six new depots and filling plants are in the process of being commissioned and a second LPG sphere is currently under construction.
