Oryx Energies South Africa wins LPG awards
28 May 2018
We are proud to announce that Oryx Energies’ South African subsidiary received two awards from the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Safety Association of South Africa at a ceremony in Johannesburg on 8 May, 2018.
Oryx Energies won the Market Developer of the Year award, while its Deputy Managing Director, Pam Indurjeeth, was designated Woman of the Year.
Benoit Araman, Oryx Energies’ Managing Director, South Africa, said: “We are extremely proud of these awards, which recognise the significant contribution that Oryx Energies has made to promoting LPG in South Africa and bringing change to the country’s energy mix. I am also delighted for Pam, who is a great professional. She has been promoting LPG for many years and it is great to see those personal efforts rewarded.”
Pam Indurjeeth commented: “We operate in an extremely challenging industry. As a woman, in an industry historically dominated by men, it is even more challenging. It is important to command respect, be assertive and lead firmly but fairly, while always remaining humble, grounded and resilient. I am extremely proud to be associated with a company that supports networks to empower women in the industry, like WIN LPG championed by the World LPG Association. I thank Oryx Energies for creating an environment that has allowed me to develop my skills at an executive level.”
Oryx Energies was also very pleased that Penguin Gas was awarded Company of the Year. Penguin Gas became a sole distributor of Oryx Energies LPG in summer 2017.
The awards ceremony took place during the annual Vision in Energy LPG Event, which brings together a variety of LPG players to support growth in the energy sector and discuss issues. The 2018 edition was dedicated to “Raising the level playing field”, looking at ways to ensure market standards enable the different players to compete in a fair and equitable manner. This includes law enforcement, training, safety and the fight against illegal cylinder filling, as well as customer education and access to supplies.
Oryx Energies has been present in South Africa since 2002 and has been a particularly active player in the country’s LPG sector since acquiring BP’s LPG business in the country in 2013. Oryx Energies has been promoting LPG as an efficient, affordable and more ecological energy alternative for consumers and industry in sub-Saharan Africa for almost 20 years.
