ESG

OUR SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY

In 2021, Oryx Energies launched its sustainability approach to identify key ESG topics. We then interviewed over a hundred internal and external stakeholders to assess the importance of each of these topics. This led to the creation our first materiality analysis, which was a key step in defining a meaningful ESG strategy.

The analysis highlighted the importance of themes such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, human rights in the supply chain, product quality and safety, and health and safety at work. Structured around four main pillars, Oryx Energies’ material topics also focus on affordable and clean energy, and on reducing inequalities.

The carbon footprint measured in 2023 for scopes 1 and 2 was 21,640 COse, including 50% from bunkering activities. Bearing in mind that the main source of greenhouse gases (GHG) for a company comes from indirect emissions linked to its activities (scope 3), we will eventually be extending the measurement of our footprint to identify the quantity of CO, produced upstream and downstream of our supply chain. The Group will also increase its investments to promote transitional energies such as liquefied petroleum gas, as well as renewable energies at its commercial, administrative and industrial sites (a total invesment of around USD 20 million in 2023). To this end, we are supporting programmes to replace wood and charcoal for cooking with LPG (Clean Cooking), and we plan to install photovoltaic systems at 150 of the 450 service stations that will be operational by the end of 2025 (compared with 32 out of 360 in 2023).

All our sites follow a waste management procedure that complies with the HSSEQ policy. We also closely monitor water consumption and treatment. Thanks to this approach, we reduced our annual water consumption by 5% in 2023. There were only three environmental incidents recorded in 2023.

Oryx Energies supports the development of local communities in Africa. As part of this commitment, each affiliate contributes to local social programmes such as promoting talent and inclusion in South Africa, providing access to healthcare through the Mercy Ships initiative, building or renovating schools (for example in Kenya and Senegal) and promoting clean cooking (for example in Tanzania and Burkina Faso). The group is also working with local governments to improve access to its products, particularly LPG.

Oryx Energies is committed to promoting equal opportunities and diversity within the company. To further improve best practice and working conditions, we are pursuing our efforts to deploy our HSSEQ policy effectively in terms of processes and training. With regard to sustainability, several training courses were launched in 2023 and five pilot workshops dedicated to the "Climate Fresk™" were attended by around 60 Group employees. These awareness-raising initiatives on climate issues will continue in 2025.
